Our History

Founded by Frank Léal in 1998, Léal Vineyards and Estate has spent more than 15 years establishing itself as one of San Benito County's premier producers of Bordeaux varietal wines. From its inaugural vintage in 2001 of Cabernet Sauvignon, Léal Vineyards has crafted a tradition of quality and excellence that continues today.

Situated in the picturesque San Benito County in the northern foothills of the Central Coast region, Léal Vineyards and Estate is surrounded by the rolling hills and Lake Léal of California's gold country. Léal Vineyards was established in 1998 and is one of the most respected wine producers in San Benito County, specializing in Bordeaux varietal wines.

The quality of Léal Vineyards' wines has always been based on a commitment to selecting the finest fruit. The winery was built on the belief that great wines begin in the vineyard. At Léal Vineyards our goal was to create a new respect and reputation for one of Central Coast's hidden wine growing regions.

Our Vineyards

California's Central Coast wine country has ideal conditions for growing a variety of superior wine grapes and producing world-class wines. We create wines of character and distinction that pay tribute to the Central Coast heritage as one of the world's premier grape growing regions.

San Benito County with its rich variety of interwoven soils, elevations and microclimates from the Pacific Ocean not too far away offer ideal conditions to ensure maximum fruit quality, which helps create well structured, balanced wines.

Some of the most important decisions we make each year are in the vineyard. The quality of fruit that we grow and buy from other vineyards defines the wines that we ultimately produce. Our estate vineyard is located on the hills behind the winery. Our estate varietals include Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Syrah, Malbec, Grenache, and Mourvèdre. Our emphasis on the vineyard helps us craft wonderful, elegant wines. We analyze each block of land and plant and grow the varietal best suited to the conditions of that block. Within a single acre we sometimes locate several varietals to optimize growing conditions and foster the flavors and tastes that define our wines.

Our commitment to showcase the best of Central Coast extends to our Tasting Room, which pairs our award-winning wines with the most breathtaking view in San Benito County.

Our Tasting Room is open daily from 10 am to 4 pm (21 and over only). Groups of 6 or more people must make an appointment. Our Tasting Room will accept Limo/Bus Service for wine tastings by appointment only. For reservations please call 831-636-1023. We are closed on Labor Day, Easter, Independence Day, Thanksgiving , Christmas and New Year's Day.
